Katy began her yoga journey in her early twenties trying yoga classes to help her mind relax while studying only to find herself giggling at the back of the class at how inflexible she was! Through her twenties she became a keen runner and gym class fanatic and while she continued to practice yoga, couldn’t find the right balance or class to support her love for fitness best.
Through her pregnancies and while her children were babies Katy practiced yoga and found it to be the contributing factor to speedy recoveries from both difficult births.
When her eldest child took an interest in children’s yoga, Katy was amazed at the obvious immediate benefits on her daughter and felt a drive to help more children benefit.
The decision to shift from her fast paced corporate career in Business Development and Events to train as a Yoga teacher was not taken lightly and a rapid period of adjustment followed for her and the whole family.
Fully trained ERYT450 hour Yoga Alliance Yoga instructor under Dhugal Meecham (Black Mat Yogi) fully trained Children’s Yoga Instructor under Cayetana Rodenas of Yoga & Kids, Barre and Sculpt yoga trained by ex Royal Ballet Lauren Vass Anderson (Rock-a-Barre) and also Pre-post natal and mum & baby under Sally Parkes, Katy has taught her own classes at venues across Edinburgh and Lothian’s including Dalkeith Country Park, Calm on Canning Street, Barefoot Sanctuary, private one-to-ones, corporate / conference groups, children and also in Tribe Yoga Edinburgh’s three busy studios.
Most recent studies in Advanced Yin and Chinese Medicine have further enhanced Katy’s toolbox of teaching skills.
In addition to the above Yoga based training Katy is now a L2 Fitness Instructor and near to completion of her Personal Trainer and Nutritional coach (end 2021). This has allowed Katy to bring more of the “yang” style energetic movement classes to the schedule.
Still a keen runner, busy wife and mum, Katy credits her yoga life with the ability to stay well, feel strong and fit and to look after the whole families health and well-being.
She believes fundamentally that yoga really is for everyone – size, shape, age, ability. Whether for fitness, strength, peace and relaxation or recovery, Katy can work to tailor your needs to your yoga.
Katy has her 450 hour Yoga Alliance Yoga training from Dhugal Meecham and is underway in her final 50 to take her to ERYT500hrs under the guidance of the same guru. Specialising in Yin and functional yoga, Myo-fascial release, Acupressure and Traditional Chinese Medicine.
She is a fully trained Children’s Yoga Instructor under Cayetana Rodenas of Yoga & Kids
She has her Barre teacher qualification with Rock-a-Barre ex Royal Ballet teacher Lauren Vass Anderson
She is fully qualified in 90 hrs of pre natal pregnancy yoga, post natal yoga and mum & baby yoga too from Sally Parkes
